They Were Once Men – WIP Update – Lord of The Rings Oil Painting Illustration

The Nazgul Have Returned!

Well, in terms of my latest oil painting on the easel anyway…

I’ve been getting up earlier than necessary for work over the past week and sneaking in a 30-40 minute painting session in order to work my way back into this piece and make some serious headway. It’s proved productive and the painting is now at a stage where all I need to do is go over the figures and the render the finishing details, not long now and we’ll have another piece for the portfolio.

Anyway, let’s get to the artwork!

Oh bother; Mural Art, an Impressionist Sketch & a de Medici Skull…

Time For Change!

Yesterday I made some changes to my site, cleaned up the menus and got a new banner/header designed and uploaded, it was a much needed facelift and now I can focus on the writing and creating again.

First of all, I may or may not have mentioned that I’m going to put together a portfolio of mural art and start moving in that general direction to attempt to make a successful business from my artwork; earning a sustainable income and enjoying the work that I’m undertaking. I whitewashed a wall in my house and I’m going to work a bunch of small scale mural pieces in order to get the portfolio started, I’ll then attack a couple of the larger walls in my house with fully fledged pieces and jump into the business world and hopefully hit the ground running!

The Grey Pilgrim

“I am looking for someone to share in an adventure that I am arranging, and it’s very difficult to find anyone.”

– Gandalf

On what started out as a seemingly ordinary day just over seventeen years ago, I happened to encounter an old wizard riding into Hobbiton on his cart that had been filled with the most amazing fireworks ever seen even by the oldest of Hobbits.

It’s strange to think of how long it has been since I was first introduced to Tolkien’s incredible world, initially through the vision of Peter Jackson but that first movie whetted my appetite and I moved onto the books pretty soon thereafter.

One of many characters that I immediately warmed to and still hold close to myself even today; is Gandalf.

” He wore a tall pointed grey hat, a long grey cloak, and a silver scarf. He had a long white beard and bushy eyebrows that stuck out beyond the brim of his hat.”

The Wandering Years of Ragnar Lothbrok

New Oil Painting!

I’ve been waiting for a while now for this piece to dry enough to get it scanned and published and now at last the time has come!

As a huge fan of the Vikings TV show and all things Norse I knew that I had to begin getting some Norse inspired artwork put together and I have now completed the first piece for the collection of Norse Artwork.

Norse themed artwork will be the sideline to my main IP ‘The Leaves of Hellebore’ so you can expect plenty more of these Viking pieces both historical and mythological as time goes on.

Anyway let’s get straight to the painting –

The Last Flight of the War Drakes

Another fragment of lore from the Leaves of Hellebore

The Last Flight of the War Drakes – Oil on Canvas – 8″ x 10″

The horns of the fell war blew a cry to awake

Through the night and the day, to the fight of an age

Over mountains and pastures the flight of the drakes

To the end of an era, to the light that’ll fade

“To the war! To the war!” cried the chief of the Wyrms

Every winged beast and creature full of evil that lurked

In the world at that time had a reason to purge

The fair people of Earth, and then see that it burned

The last flight of the War Drakes was the one and only time that the great dragons had ever been known to band together as a unitary force; they flew with intense fury and vengeance to the battlefronts of the Fell War leaving a burning trail of destruction and death in their wake.

They flew to their demise and apparent extinction once the Eldar caused the ‘Burning Sky’ ending the fell war and eradicating every evil creature present.

Thus concluded the last flight of the War Drakes.
